U15 Frayne A-E team wins Regional Silver Stick

U18 Legion A-E team finalists at Silver Stick tourney in Exeter on weekend

COLLINGWOOD - The U15 Additional-Entry boys team, sponsored by Frayne Custom Cabinets, has earned a spot in the International Silver Stick tournament in the Niagara area early in the New Year.
At the 2021 Regional Silver Stick tourney here this past weekend, Gord Cookson's squad defeated rival Dorchester Dragons 2-1 in Sunday afternoon's final at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena. Sam Johnson and Jonah Lariviere scored the St. Marys goals, and Reid Taylor was the winning netminder.
In their five games in Collingwood, the Rock allowed only four goals against.
The U15 AE crew finished first in their five-team division (with seven points) and earned a bye to Sunday's final. In the round-robin portion of the tourney, St. Marys and Dorchester tied 2-2 after the Rock had taken a 2-0 lead.
Dorchester advanced to the championship game by defeating Centre-Wellington Fusion 4-0 in the semi-finals Saturday night after the two teams had tied their earlier round-robin game.
In their four round-robin games, the U15 Rock defeated Centre-Wellington 4-0, tied Dorchester, blanked Listowel Cyclones 5-0 and defeated Collingwood Jr. Blues 4-1. It left St. Marys with a goals for-and-against record of 15-3.
In the U13 AE division at Collingwood, the Rock lost two of their three games and didn't advance to the playoff round in the six-team division. The Rock is sponsored by St. Marys Building Centre.
Legion U18 team finalists in Exeter
At a Regional Silver Stick tournament in the Exeter area this past week, Adam Zurbrigg's U18 A-E Rock team reached the championship final in the eight-team division.
Sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 236, the U18 Rock tied Wallaceburg Lakers 1-1 in their opening game last Friday. On Saturday, after a 6-1 loss to the host South Huron Sabres, St. Marys edged the BCH Ice Dogs 4-3 at Stephen Township Arena to even their record at 1-1-1.
In the semi-finals Sunday morning, Zurbrigg's charges defeated Strathroy Rockets 3-1 to punch their ticket to Sunday afternoon's final. South Huron edged Petrolia Oilers 5-4 in the other semi.
In the championship game, Sabres edged the Rock 4-3.
