Ramshackle's culinary delights

Ramshackle Industries is the name which encompasses five employee-owned Stratford restaurants all conveniently located near the Stratford City Square. At the helm of these establishments is Jessie Votary with her gifted team of staff/co-owners offering some of the most creatively inspired food and service in our area. As all restaurants have faced challenges during the pandemic, Ramshackle Industries took this as a challenge and came up with not only new restaurant concepts but innovative ways they could continue to serve their loyal customers, from offering take-out, delivery, and groceries to new concept pop-up restaurants showcasing the talents of Stratford chefs.
The Red Rabbit, Avec, Old Man and Son, Pollo Morta, and Burger Queen are currently the primary restaurants under the Ramshackle brand on Wellington Street, but don’t be surprised if you hear of a new venture or pop-up to temporarily join the team. The Red Rabbit and Avec are neighbours, with the former offering elevated and locally sourced Canadian fare and the latter is a restaurant specializing in artisan cocktails with the motto to, “Snack. Drink. Repeat”. Across the road, on the same street you will find Old Man and Son, a breakfast and brunch restaurant with house-cured bacon, the fluffiest pancakes, as well as vegan and keto menu items. In the same building are both Pollo Morta, which has the best fried chicken around whether you like traditional or the hotter, Nashville version and Burger Queen, serving up fast food and delectable house made burgers which will satisfy both the herbivore and carnivore’s tastes. Covering all the bases for your food cravings, you can’t go wrong trying one of these establishments. As dining in is currently restricted, there is patio seating available at the Red Rabbit shared with Avec, there are also public picnic tables located in the square for you to relax, or you can enjoy your meal at one of the many locations in the Lower Queen’s Park for a picnic or take home to eat at your leisure.
What has me extremely excited is the monthly inspired menus being offered by The Red Rabbit which will take you on a sensory journey exploring different cuisines from around the globe. Already a success and quickly selling out, the theme for the month of June is Asian Night Market which will transport you from Japan and back again via Vietnam, Thailand, and China. It is open for reservations, for take out or to sit on the patio. Reservations are recommended because when The Red Rabbit has a theme, it quickly becomes popular and in demand. From feature cocktails such as the Ex-Pat and K-Pop to bang bang duck rolls, shao mai (shrimp dumplings) yes - there's plenty of dumplings, a whole fried sea bream, ramen, Indonesian fried rice, and yakitori are just a selection of the tasty offerings this Asian menu has to offer. This menu is only being offered until the end of June so I highly recommend ordering while it is still available, but keep in mind, it will only be switching to an equally, if not more delicious theme each month. No passport required, simply bring your appetite and a sense of adventure as these themes will continue until the end of the year.
Spoiler alert! Jessie was kind enough to share next month’s theme: Rediterranean Cruise, a journey through the cultural flavours of Spain, Morocco, Greece, Turkey and more!
