A beautiful new backstop was recently erected at the Baseball Hall of Fame's Cement Field.
It was part of the multi-project site improvements that have gone on throughout 2021 with support from the Jays Care Foundation, the Town of St. Marys, Trillium Mutual Insurance Company and St. Marys minor ball.
After dismantling the old backstop, Fortress Fencing, a company based in Blyth, installed the sturdy 30 ft. high backstop, with some assistance from the Town of St. Marys and Savile Construction. The Town of St. Marys crew removed the enormous old cement footings. New cement footings were poured on Oct. 18, then the large posts were installed and finally the mesh.
Work on the project officially started Oct. 5 and was completed Nov. 10. There were a few delays, due to all the wet weather this fall.
