Cemetery and Cenotaph services proceed with safety in mind
St. Marys will mark Remembrance Week 2020 with two events.
On Saturday, November 7 from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m., the annual Veterans’ Decoration Day will occur at the St. Marys Cemetery (150 Cain Street). Formerly known as the Veterans’ Flag Planting Ceremony, loved ones of veterans interred at St. Marys Cemetery are invited to receive complimentary flags to place at veterans’ graves.
Flags can be picked up at the cemetery chapel. Social distancing measures will be in place to ensure the safety of all who attend.
Those who are unable to attend or who would prefer not to attend due to the pandemic are welcome to contact Events Coordinator Andrea Macko at 510-284-2340, ext. 249 or firstname.lastname@example.org so flags may be placed on your behalf.
Due to the pandemic, there will be only one service in St. Marys to commemorate Remembrance Day, taking place Wednesday, November 11 at the Town Hall cenotaph at 10:45 a.m.
The community is encouraged to watch the service live on the Town of St. Marys Facebook page (account not required to view) in order to maintain physical distancing and adhere to gathering guidelines. Queen Street in front of Town Hall and the Cenotaph will be closed to vehicular traffic at 10:30 a.m. for the duration of the service to encourage physical distancing. A call-in option will be available for those without Internet access; details will be announced shortly. Anyone attending in person is asked to wear a mask.
