Wayne Ross records third ace at St. Marys G&CC

The following are results of recent tournament play at local golf courses.
–The foursome of Owen Penney, Josh Cornelissen, James ‘Louie’ Robinson and Kyle Smith won the annual Fall Classic on Oct. 17 at River Valley Golf and Country Club.
The Penney group finished with an 11-under-par score of 54 for the day. Over 100 golfers took part in the event.
–The winners of the annual Three-Man Scramble at St. Marys Golf and Country Club on Oct. 18 were the team of Darryl Sterkenburg, Tristan Dundas and Mike Glover. They combined for an 11-under-par score of 61. The entry of Rich Parsons, Pete Vossen and Jason Skipper, and the threesome of Jeremy Foran, Andy Cunningham and Kirk Kipfer tied for second place with nine-under 63s.
In total, 26 teams competed.
In the same Three-Man Scramble tournament, Wayne Ross recorded a hole-in-one on the par 3 No. 18 hole. Ross used a 5-wood from the elevated blue tees to get his ace, from approximately 168 yards out. His playing partners were Chico Downing and Dan Armstrong.
“I hit a nice big cut into the wind,” Ross told the Independent. “I was pretty happy that day.”
It was the third hole-in-one of Ross’s golfing career — all on the same hole at St. Marys G&CC.
–The 14th annual Bob Lince Memorial tournament was held at St. Marys G&CC last month.
Two foursomes tied for first place with 10-under-par scores of 62. The team of Dave Ellis, Joel Carlberg, Chris Scheuermann and Jeff Harrett represented ANAF, Unit 265. The other top entry was the Stonetown Supply team of Steph Audet, Pete Fulmer, Paul Boreham and Pete Winter.
About 60 golfers played in this year’s Lince tourney.
–At River Valley this past Saturday, Oct. 24, the team of Todd Hynd, Dave Graff, Joel Boersma and Mike Knechtel finished first in the Octoberfest tournament with a 10-under-par score. Placing second with nine-under-par were the foursome of Darlene Clark, April Clark, Stan Clark and Renae Nevills.
