During St. Marys minor hockey’s on-line AGM meeting last Tuesday, July 28, Kristene McCurdy agreed to a third term as president of the association. It’s possibly the first time in minor hockey history that a member will serve three consecutive terms as SMMHA president.
Other members of the 2020-21 executive include: first vice-president Mark Brintnell, second vice-president Erica Kiestra, treasurer Bernie Sterkenburg, secretary Judy Greig, and past president Chris Boyd.
During the AGM, McCurdy admitted that the upcoming season is likely going to be shorter than a normal hockey year due to Covid-19.
“It’s going to be a bit of a challenge once we get started, with all of the guidelines and things that we have to follow,” she said. “But I’m really looking forward to working again with such great volunteers. “Things might be a little challenging for us, but I’m sure that we can do this working together and do the best that we can for all our players in minor hockey.”
–Directors starting a three-year term, expiring in 2023, are: Cindy Johnston, Rachael Torrance, Mike Johnson, Kristene McCurdy and Kevin Bilyea. There are three (three-year term) director positions still open.
–Pete Frehner, who serves as OMHA Rep. and Police Check Co-ordinator for minor hockey, was nominated to fill a one-year term as director.
–The SMMHA is also looking for a co-registrar, a person responsible for looking after boys’ registrations, as well as a communications officer. It’s now required under Hockey Canada and OHF guidelines.
