The week of Aug. 20 to 23 is Club Championship Week at St. Marys Golf and Country Club.
The Junior girls and boys will play for titles on Thursday, Aug. 20, and admission is free.
There are four divisions for the Junior golfers: 8 and under; 9 to 11; 12 to 14; and 15 to 18. The sign-up sheets are just outside the pro shop.
Champions for Ladies, Men, Seniors and Super Seniors will be established on the Aug. 22-23 weekend. The $25 fee (plus tax) includes breakfast. The two-day tournament involves 36 holes of golf.
There will be trophies and prizes for both the top gross and net scores. The sign-up sheets are also just outside the pro shop.
The Club Championships at River Valley Golf and Country Club, meanwhile, will be decided on Labour Day weekend, Saturday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 6. Members can go to the pro shop to sign up.
At River Valley, there will be rings given out to the respective club champions this year. “They’re like Stanley Cup rings,” says David Tkaczuk of River Valley.
Dust aces No. 2 again
In other local golf news, Neil Dust recorded his second hole-in-one of the 2020 season last Monday, July 13 at St. Marys G&CC.
Dust aced the par 3 No. 2 hole with a seven iron, hitting a nice draw from the white tees from 170 yards. It’s the second time this year that the long-hitting St. Marys member has had a hole-in-one on the No. 2 hole. He also aced it from the white tees early in the golf season.
For Dust, last Monday’s hole-in-one was the fourth of his golf career, and his third one at the St. Marys G&CC.
