Eggs now available at The Hitching Post

“Same product, different location.”
Loyal customers of Graham’s Egg House on Pelissier Street will not have to travel far out of the way to purchase their eggs. As of this past Saturday, June 27, Graham’s farm fresh eggs are available for sale at The Hitching Post, located just a half-block to the west.
“This is actually the building where we first graded eggs,” said Scott Graham when interviewed inside The Hitching Post at 480 Queen Street West. The Graham Family has proudly supplied farm fresh eggs to the St. Marys community since the mid-1960s. Scott’s parents Tom and Evelyn Graham started Graholm Farms Ltd., passed it on to Scott and his wife Laurie, and now Brett and Jessica Graham are the third generation to manage the business.
For six decades, the family has allocated a portion of its eggs to St. Marys customers via the self-serve, temperature-controlled building outside the Graham home on Pelissier Street. The egg house has been convenient for the family and customers alike.
“It really is a tribute to the community when you can have an honour system egg house like this for as long as we’ve had it,” said Scott. Over the years, there has been very little loss from customers not putting in the right amount of money.
Though many factors went into the decision to transition away from the self-serve format, the COVID pandemic was the key factor that pushed the decision to happen now, as the Egg House has been kept shut for the past number of months due to safety concerns.
“We just weren’t sure how we were going to keep it safe; you’d hate to be that point of contact if people started to get sick,” said Laurie Graham.
“It’s the right time and the right place…one of those eureka moments!” she said of the move to the Queen Street building which played a key part in the early history of Graholm Farms. “This is a nice transition, it’s a win-win,” added Scott.
“From our side, we’re honoured to have it back here full circle and to have this tradition continue for the Town of St. Marys, said Mark Ross, who owns The Hitching Post along with wife Shannon.
Graham Eggs sell for $7.25 per flat (30 eggs) or $3.00 per dozen. The Hitching Post is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to noon.
