On Sunday, June 7th, a total of 192 hikers which included 29 teams hiked, biked, kayaked, and rode on horseback to hike the distance by keeping the distance for Rotary Hospice. Collectively they helped raise over $84,000! An astounding total considering their goal was $50,000.
Dennis Young, the Board Chair of Stratford Perth Hospice Foundation shared; “The success of an event is never done singlehandedly. At the Rotary Hospice we believe “it takes a village.” This is just one clear example of how we came together as a community, being creative, and having a lot of fun doing it!”
COVID-19 has reminded us all that life can change in an instant. As a result, it is more important than ever to recognize the role of hospice palliative care in our communities.
While the pandemic forced the cancellation of in person volunteer shifts both in the Hospice and for the visiting community program, and meant a restriction of family visitors, the clinical care team continue to ensure each resident is provided excellent palliative care. All extended at no cost to the resident.
The virtual edition of this event was made possible thanks to the following corporate sponsors: Ontario Home Health & Oxygen (trailblazer sponsor); Tradition Mutual (Gold Sponsor); Woodcock Brothers (Silver Sponsor); and McCutchen & Pearce Professional Services (Bronze Sponsor).
Most importantly, Rotary Hospice wants to thank this year’s Hikers, and supporters. “We are humbled by the generosity of donors to our hike and those who shared their personal stories. Your gifts will allow us to continue to do the fine work that is done at the Rotary Hospice and make it a wonderful, compassionate and caring end-of-life experience” says Dennis Young. To the businesses who promoted our event, to those who donated the oh so many wonderful prizes and to our local dignitaries who shared their messages and encouragement ~ THANK-YOU!!
All funds raised from this annual Hike for Hospice event remain in Perth County supporting families in hospice or community living with a life limiting illness.
