Stonetown Karate Centre has closed its Dojo at 29 Wellington Street South due to the ongoing health concerns related to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, the martial arts business hasn’t missed a beat. It is offering Virtual Live karate classes for its students.
All in virtual, Stonetown Karate is featuring the following: Kids Karate classes (starting at three years old), Adult Karate classes and Adult Cardio Kickboxing classes as well as Weapons training, National Team training for its competitive students, and private lessons.
“They are live on-line classes through the internet,” explains Sensei Jeremy Lorentz, owner of the Stonetown Karate Centre. “We went live starting March 23.”
Online classes are available four days per week, Monday to Thursday. Check their website (Stonetownkarate.ca) for available classes and times.
“We run two different classes simultaneously (in two training rooms) to be able to offer all of our classes,” Lorentz says. “We have about 100 memberships, with all of them able to access us through online virtual training and our mobile App.”
Lorentz says virtual training ensures their students keep busy and don’t fall behind in their training.
“It lets them continue to advance belt ranks and keeps them active while stuck at home,” he explains. “Best of all, every student gets to interact with our instructors and all their karate classmates.
“This is a scary time for many people and we wanted to be able to keep some normalcy for our students and parents the best way we can. We saw that having to close our physical location was a very good possibility weeks before it happened and we implemented procedures to make sure we had a virtual training curriculum in place.”
He admits it took an “enormous amount” of hours to get equipment, curriculum and processes in place. “But all that hard work has paid off and the feedback from our parents and students is beyond amazing,” he says. “We have the absolute best karate families and can hardly wait to see them all back in the Dojo.”
Note: Stonetown Karate is offering an online one-month trial membership. It also includes a karate uniform. Contact Lorentz at 519-284-0614 for more information.
