In a Shamrock League playoff game last Thursday night, the Cement ‘BB’ Midgets skated to a 4-0 victory over the visiting Lambton Shores Predators.
With the win, Brent Rae’s Cement men completed a three-game sweep of the SHL semi-final series. In the three games, the Rock out-scored the Preds 11-3.
In Thursday’s game, centre Ethan Froggett paced the St. Marys offence with a goal and three assists. Froggett fired what proved to be the game winner at 2:31 of the first period from defenceman George Hensel.
In the second period, goals by Kaleb Schalk and Keegan Nethercott boosted the lead to 3-0, with Froggett assisting on both. Carter Reid completed the scoring with just over five minutes remaining in the third. Logan Hodkinson picked up his second assist of the night on the goal.
The shutout went to Jake Bryans, who wasn’t severely tested. The game didn’t have much intensity, and the Cement men appeared to play just as well as they had to.
Reay scores twice in Forest
In Game 2 of the series last Tuesday in Forest, the Cement Midgets defeated the Predators 4-2.
Captain Nathan Reay scored twice for St. Marys, including one on a powerplay. Keegan Nethercott and Paolo Linares (powerplay) had the other tallies, and Aaron Waugh earned the net win.
Overall, the Rock out-shot Lambton Shores 44-18.
Coach Rae and his Cement Midgets will now play either Dresden, South Kent or Mooretown in the Shamrock final. Those three teams have been playing a round-robin series.
