Four SMMHA teams taking part in three-day event
St. Marys Minor Hockey Association will hold its annual Local League tournament this weekend, Jan. 3-5.
Nineteen teams, including four from the SMMHA, will compete in the three-day event.
The Nicholson Concrete Atoms will compete in the six-team Atom division, starting Friday against Mitchell at 4:30 p.m. That Rock team is coached by Mike Hillman. Belmont, Norwich, Tavistock and Wingham are the other teams in the Atom division.
Four teams are in the Peewee division, including the St. Marys Blue and White squads. The Bickell Built Homes (Blue) team is coached by Greg Doyon, while the Stonetown Foodland (White) team is coached by Jaden Ropp. The other Peewee teams are Central Perth and New Hamburg.
The Bickell Peewees (Blue) start against Central Perth Saturday at 10:30 a.m., while the Foodland Peewees (White) open against New Hamburg Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
The four Bantam teams are Aylmer, Embro, Mitchell and St. Thomas.
There are five teams in the Midget division, including the St. Marys Buick GMC team, coached by Mark Morning. The other Midget teams are Erie Northshore, Minto, Paris and Mt. Brydges. The Rock starts against Minto Friday at 4:45 p.m.
Both the Rock and Blue ice pads will be used to accommodate the 37 games. It all starts Friday at 4:30 p.m., and finishes up with four championship games on Sunday afternoon, starting at 1:45 p.m.
