Christmas may be just around the corner but there’s much festive fun still to be had during the last-minute hustle and bustle!
This is the second weekend of WinterLights wagon rides; rides are offered December 21 and 22, as well as on Christmas Eve, December 24, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Rides are first-come, first-served, with two steps into the wagon. Parking is available at the north end of the park, near the WinterLights sponsor sign, which is also the loading area for the wagon rides.
Viewing the display and the wagon rides are free; however, donations to offset the display’s set-up and maintenance costs are always appreciated. There are two donation boxes, one at the sponsor wall, which lists all the generous sponsors for this year’s display, and another near “waving Santa” as you exit the park. For donations requiring a tax receipt, please contact Events Coordinator Andrea Macko at email@example.com or 519-284-2340, ext. 249.
Many community partners are sponsoring free public skating at the Pyramid Recreation Centre during the holiday season. The River Road Run is sponsoring free skating on Saturday, Dec. 21, Monday, Dec. 23, and Saturday, Dec. 28 from 2 to 2:50 p.m., and The Downie Optimist Club is sponsoring free skating on Friday, Dec. 27 from 2 to 2:50 p.m. Forman Electric is sponsoring free skating on Monday, Dec. 30 from 2 to 2:50 p.m.
In addition to sponsored skates, there are several public skating and swimming sessions at the Pyramid Centre during the Christmas break. The Pyramid Recreation Centre closes at noon on Christmas Eve Day, and will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 31 until noon.
For specific activity times, please call Guest Services at 519-284-2160. You can also consult the Recreation & Leisure Program Guide, @pyramidcentre on Facebook, or visit www.townofmarys.com and click on “Recreation and Leisure”.
The Pyramid Recreation Centre will be the place for families to be on Tuesday, Dec. 31, as an early New Year’s Eve party allows for little ones to celebrate. Thanks to the generosity of Scotiabank, there are two free swimming times: 6 to 6:50 p.m. and 7 to 7:50 p.m., while Tim Hortons is sponsoring free skating from 6 to 8 p.m. A balloon drop will take place at 8 p.m.
