Due to another recent vacancy, a new nomination period has been opened. Applications for this new period will be received until November 7, 2019. The two applications for the previous nomination period will be received for acclamation by Council at their November 12 meeting.
The St. Marys Business Improvement Area (BIA) is dedicated to ensuring a healthy economic environment for the community and making the downtown a better place to shop, dine, live, work, invest, visit and play. The mandate of the BIA is to provide effective leadership in order to beautify and promote St. Marys’ downtown as a unique and vibrant entertainment, social, cultural and economically viable business centre.
Currently, the BIA Board needs to fill a least one vacant position, as a January 22, 2019 Council Bylaw set the composition of the BIA at no less than five members and no more than seven members, which includes a member of Council appointed directly by the municipality.
In order to stand for nomination to the BIA Board, you must be a member of the BIA – which is automatically granted to those operating businesses in the BIA area and to those who own properties in the BIA. If you are energetic, entrepreneurial and enthusiastic, this is an opportunity to make a positive impact in Downtown St. Marys.
BIA Board members will be expected to attend monthly BIA meetings and occasional events while helping the BIA implement its initiatives. The term of the BIA Board is the same as the current term of Council – which means you’d be helping lead the BIA until December, 2022.
Nominations will be accepted until 10:00 am on November 7, 2019. To make a nomination, please visit www.townofstmarys.com/BIAnomination or drop by Town Hall to pick up the nomination form.
