Celebration closes this Saturday with free Emm Gryner concert
The 20 on the Trestle celebration will end on a high note – high above St. Marys!
After months of free activities and over 2,000 participants, the 20 on the Trestle celebrations come to a close this Saturday.
The entire community is asked to gather on the Grand Trunk Trail’s trestle at 3 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 5 for an uplifting celebration. The day was chosen for its proximity to October 3, 1999, when the trail officially opened.
After closing remarks, attendees will be treated to a performance from Emm Gryner, the Juno Award-nominated singer, songwriter, vocal coach and occasional CBC host who proudly calls St. Marys home. In addition to touring with the legendary David Bowie, Gryner famously collaborated with astronaut Chris Hadfield on his version of Bowie’s Space Oddity, which was partially recorded on the International Space Station in 2013.
Otherworldly experiences aside, Gryner is looking forward to this special hometown performance.
“The trestle is one of my favourite places in the world,” Gryner says. “I’m excited to play music – which is my favourite thing to do – in my favourite place!”
The closing ceremony will be captured by drone video, so the more people on the trestle, the better, explains Town of St. Marys Events Coordinator Andrea Macko.
“20 on the Trestle was all about community spirit,” Macko says. “By having the trestle filled on Saturday, we’ll have a joyful memento of the celebration and of this spirit.”
