When ‘The Front Porch Show’ was first started, not many people would have predicted that in 2019, the show would have an agent out in Los Angeles, California. However, that is precisely what Rich Miller has become.
Despite living on the opposite side of the continent, Miller has become a superfan of John Stevens and ‘The Front Porch Show’. He has watched virtually every show and has even contributed to the program financially. However, most interestingly of all, he has become the LA agent for the show, leading the push to, one day, fulfill the ultimate dream of the entire ‘Front Porch Show’ crew; to bring Ellen DeGeneres to St. Marys.
Miller, Stevens and everyone knows that it is just that, a dream. It’s an ultimate fantasy to have Ellen come and experience the unique, quaint charm of the community and, more importantly, its residents. However, it was one that Miller took to heart when Stevens shared it with him and one that he is still working on, in hopes of one day making it a reality.
For now, though, Miller is gearing up to watch the show from the other side of the camera. Always watching the show on Facebook, this weekend, Miller will be co-hosting the program that he has become so enamoured with.
You may be wondering how Miller even found out about the show in the first place. After all, he is living in California, and not too many people in the LA area, unfortunately, are paying close attention to St. Marys news. However, Miller’s connection with St. Marys goes back generations. His great grandfather, Joseph Albert, used to be the St. Marys fire chief and his great uncles were also members of the fire department, the youngest of which being Humphrey. According to Miller, Humphrey always loved telling the story of how they would hook up the horses to the fire wagon in record time.
That was the bedrock of his St. Marys connection, but it would be his cousin who turned him on to ‘The Front Porch Show’. He spoke about his affection for the community and the team who puts the show together, “this group is doing a fantastic job promoting St. Marys. It is a wonderful gift to the community.”
An exclusive interview with Rich Miller will air on St. Marys Radio Friday, August 16 at 12 pm. It will also replay at 5 and 9 pm and be made available on St. Marys Radio’s SoundCloud on Saturday for on-demand listening.
