Retrogression was needed to determine an overall winner at the 26th annual Memorial Hospital Foundation golf tournament last Thursday at St. Marys Golf and Country Club. Over 130 golfers played on a beautiful sunny day, with a cool breeze, making for ideal weather conditions for golf.
Two foursomes topped the field with 10-under-par scores of 62 in the Texas Scramble format. However, the team of Bentley Dundas, Mark Monteith, Reid Dundas and Tristan Dundas was awarded first place due to retrogression. It’s a method of tie-breaking when two finishers complete their rounds with the same score.
The foursome of Dale Levy, Derek Shackleton, Amie Shackleton and Calana Hinnegan also carded a 10-under 62 for the day. There were some other good scores posted last Thursday. Two teams finished one shot back with nine-under 63s. Five teams had rounds of eight-under 64, three groups had seven-under 65s, and three more had six-under 66s.
“So very fortunate to get a bright sunny day to play,” said Krista Linklater, Executive Director St. Marys Healthcare Foundation. “A total of 132 players and many volunteers made for a very successful 26th annual golf tournament for our local healthcare.”
Leslie Showers and Donna Aldis ran the putting contest.
