National tryouts later this month in Gatineau, Que.

WINDSOR – It was a good tune-up for Stonetown Karate Centre students here recently.
Four SKC members competed at the Southern Ontario Open martial arts championships, and three of them are preparing for the national tryouts later this month in Gatineau, Que. Jaseena Cates, Jalyne Lorentz and Darren Campbell are among eight SKC members who will attempt to win spots on Team Canada during tryouts on the May 17-19 weekend.
At Windsor’s Lakeshore Discovery School on Apr. 27th, Cates, Lorentz, Campbell and Isabelle Lariviere all posted top-three finishes for SKC.
Cates placed second in sparring, second in traditional weapons, and second in kata (forms) in the 7-8 year-old Advanced division. In the 11-12 Black Belt division, Lorentz finished second in sparring, second in traditional weapons, and second in kata.
Campbell earned third place in 30-and-over men’s sparring.
Lariviere also had a good day at the Southern Ontario Open, finishing first in sparring and third in kata in the 13-14 Intermediate division.
–The Southern Ontario Open is a WKC Canada certified tournament.
–All weapons and kata (forms) divisions featured boys and girls combined.
–The tournament also attracted competitors from martial arts clubs in the U.S.
