St. Marys Minor Ball, along with Major League Baseball, are teaming up to run the 2019 MLB Pitch Hit & Run skills contest for youngsters at the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum on Saturday, May 11th on King Field, starting at 10 a.m.
Boys and girls, aged 7-14, will be given a chance to showcase their skills. The champions from the four age categories will advance to a regional showdown; the winners of which may advance to Toronto’s Rogers Centre. The champions from the Rogers Centre competition may qualify for the North American Championship Finals, being held during the 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in July.
There is no cost to participate, but players must pre-register by emailing: scottcrawford17@rogers.com. Players should check-in on May 11th at 9:30 a.m. at the Hall of Fame’s King Field, at 386 Church St. S., and must hand in a photocopy of their birth certificate.
The players are divided by gender, and the four age categories are: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14, as determined by the child’s age on July 17th, 2019.
The three competitions that make up the event involve: the players’ ability to throw strikes, a timed running segment, and hitting for distance and accuracy.
The winners advance to the regional showdown, which is also slated to take place at the Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 25th, starting at 3 p.m. If they make it through that sectional, they have a chance to be invited to compete at the Rogers Centre on June 8th.
