Goalie Rachael Bentley and her London Devilette Jr. PWHL teammates won gold at the Provincials in Mississauga on the Apr. 5-7 weekend. She is a former St. Marys Rock player, coached by Marc Cameron and Kevin McDougall.
Bentley played the first three games, allowing just one goal throughout. Her goaltending partner Jamie Johnson (from British Columbia) played the final three, giving up three goals with a shutout in the final game as Devilettes defeated Kingston Ice Wolves (league champions) 3-0.
It’s the first time in 15 years that Jr. Devilettes have captured gold at the Provincials.
The London team also captured gold in the ‘Final Four’ championship this past weekend in Oakville. It’s for the top-four ranked teams in the league. It’s the first time in club history, meanwhile, that the Jr. Devilettes won both the Provincials and the Alumni Cup in the same season.
Rachael, 18, has been accepted at McGill University in Montreal, where she will begin studies in computer science and physics in the fall.
