Ms. McDonald’s grade 7 class at St. Marys DCVI are in pursuit of a once in a lifetime opportunity…to win an all-expenses-paid class trip to Manitoba!
Every year, Parks Canada administers a contest where one lucky classroom (grades 7 through 9) is transported somewhere in Canada “to be inspired by nature, experience history like never before, and make memories that they will never forget.”
From June 3-7, 2019, the winning classroom will be flown to beautiful Manitoba, where they will discover places such as Riding Mountain National Park, Fort Garry National Historic Site, Riel House National Historic Site, and Forks National Historic Site. These destinations will provide the young students with an incredible experience full of wonderment, history, geography and overall appreciation for our large and diverse country.
Each classroom entering the contest had to work together and compile a photo essay on their theme of choice. Ms. McDonald’s class prepared a video that emphasized the benefits of getting outside, being active and enjoying winter activities. The class visited Little Falls Public School to share this message with younger students, and with their help they compiled a photo essay entitled “Winter, Eh” that was submitted for the Parks Canada contest.
People across Canada will be voting online for their favourite photo essay during the first three weeks of March, with the top 10 as of March 20th going to the final judging stage of the contest. Through the first week of voting, Ms. McDonald’s DCVI class ranks 3rd place in Canada. To help boost the exposure of their contest entry, they have placed posters around town, and have been utilizing social media, and even had a radio appearance on local station Juice FM 107.1.
To help support our local youth as they try to win this educational opportunity of a lifetime, please go to http://coolestschooltrip.ca/en/home and vote for “Winter, Eh” by St. Marys DCVI. You are allowed to vote once per day per email address up until March 20th when the voting closes. To verify that your email address is legitimate, the contest will send you a verification email that must be clicked on to make your vote count.
Good luck to Ms. McDonald’s class as they strive towards winning Canada’s Coolest School Trip!
