It was a big weekend for two Stratford St. Michael track and field alumni recently.
At the OUA championships held at York University, Craig Klomp earned two silver medals. On the Friday, Klomp was second in the 1,000 metres in 2:26.86. On the Saturday, Craig was again second in the 1,500-metre race, running in 3:51.73.
The St. Marys area native will compete in the upcoming U-Sport championships.
Overholt fourth in 400 metres
At the Ivy League Heptagonal track and field championships held at Cambridge, Mass., Brooke Overholt finished fourth in the 400 metres. Her time of 56.32 qualifies her for the next level of competition, the IC4A/ECAC championships. She was only 0.22 out of the bronze.
Overholt was the top Cornell athlete in the event and was the only freshman running in the 400-metre finals.
In the final scoring event of the weekend, the group of Elise Burdette (a freshman), Martha Sam, Brooke Overholt (also a freshman), and Jinjer Pearce ran a speedy 3:44.58 for the 4×400 yards, finishing in second place. For context, this was only two seconds off the all-time Heps yards record, which was set by an all-star Cornell team in 2015!
