Lincolns’ awards night Friday, Mar. 1 open to the public

As part of an Alumni promotion, St. Marys Lincolns will honour members of the 1967-68 Western League championship team this Friday, Feb. 22 during the ‘Fill the Rink Night’ game against Strathroy Rockets. Some of the players on that memorable Lincs’ team included: Pete Fraser, Mike Mikita, Jack Julius, Ray Parise, Don Stewart, Bill Rysnik, Tom Patterson, Rick Felkar, Dennis ‘Red’ Henderson, Bill McIntosh, Frank Teahen, Gerry Barber and Phil Howard.
The ‘67-68 team finished in first place with a 23-15-2 record, and then defeated Kitchener (4-2) and Goderich (4-2) to win the league title. Fraser, a talented centreman, was St. Marys’ leading scorer.
About a dozen players from that team are expected to attend Friday’s game.
–Lincolns held their ‘Billet Appreciation Night’ this past Friday. Billet family members were thanked in an on-ice, pre-game ceremony and presented with a basket of flowers. “You’ve all gone above and beyond what is expected of a billet family, and created a warm, welcoming environment for our players who come from across Ontario,” club president Brandon Boyd said.
–Lincs’ annual awards banquet will be held Friday, Mar. 1 at the community centre, and it’s open to the public. It’s $30 a plate. Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner and awards from 6:30 to 9 p.m., and social from 9 p.m. onward. For more information, contact: BBoyd@Lincs.ca.
–Local musicians Sean and Kevin Graham will perform in the community centre following the Lincolns-Montreal Canadiens’ Alumni game Friday, Mar. 22.
–There are two different ownership groups attempting to bring Junior hockey back to Collingwood. One group is seeking a Jr. ‘B’ club which would play out of the Midwestern Conference of the GOJHL, spearheaded by a former Collingwood mayor and local businessmen. The other group, led by the owner of the OHL’s Barrie Colts, is vying for a Provincial Jr. ‘A’ club which would play out of the OJHL.
Both groups will make presentations to council, and a decision will be made in March.
–Lincolns’ annual spring Prospects Camp has been scheduled for the April 26-28 weekend at the PRC.
Intra-squad games will be held on Friday night and Saturday. The ‘Green and White’ game will be held on the Sunday. There will also be dryland training with Bob’s Fitness, and a seminar hosted by Director of Hockey Operations Jim MacEachern.
