The 15th annual Meridian Hope for Haiti bonspiel took place at the St. Marys Curling Club this past Saturday. Approximately 100 people enjoyed this charity event in support of Hope for Haiti projects.
The main project in the fall of 2018 was drilling four wells in Northern Malawi, Africa. In the past, Hope for Haiti has drilled 15 wells in South Malawi. Working with Linda Wallis and Carol Hamilton from the group, Change Her World, four new boreholes (wells) were drilled at Maula School and Village, Chimphinga Village, Chambagho Village and Chiwalawala Village.
No longer do the village women have to walk long distances with 60 pound pails of dirty water on their heads. For the village women and families to have wells with clean water close by is a miracle!
The Hope for Haiti group is hoping to drill four more wells this year. They are still committed to their projects in Haiti, but with the unrest there, everything is at a standstill for now.
A total of $4,695 was raised at Saturday’s event. Local organizers wish to thank all those who helped with and contributed to this charity event. “We truly appreciate your generosity and support,” convener Brian Douglas said.
A special thanks to Meridian Credit Union for their donation towards this year’s bonspiel.
