In an effort to generate interest in curling among local residents who can’t commit to a weekly league, the St. Marys Curling Club is offering a promotion called ‘Public Curling’ — a bi-weekly (every two weeks), drop-in league on a first-come, first-serve basis — starting Monday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.
No curling experience? Not a problem. All you need is a clean pair of runners, and coaches will be available.
“It’s exactly the same thought process as public skating or public swimming,” says Carrie Burden, bonspiels and events coordinator at the curling club. “It’s for people who can’t make the commitment to a (curling) league.
“I believe there’s going to be two or three sheets (of ice) available. You pay your $10 and you curl for an hour and a half or two hours that the ice is available.”
