A new term of Council began with the inaugural meeting on December 4, 2018 when each member recited the Declaration of Office with Clerk Lizet Scott officiating. The meeting began with opening remarks from Administrator/Treasurer Rebecca Clothier. “On behalf of the staff of Perth South, we want to take a moment and applaud all the candidates for putting their name forward to serve in such an important part of Canadian democracy, and congratulate the successful candidates on their election victory. We look forward to working with the new Council during the next four year term of office,” Clothier said in her opening remarks. Before moving on to other business, Mayor Bob Wilhelm addressed the new Council. “It is my privilege to once again serve as Mayor for Perth South.” said Mayor Wilhelm. “And I thank everyone for the opportunity for the next four years.” Mayor Wilhelm also thanked outgoing councillors Stuart Arkett, who served for 15 years, and Councillor Cathy Barker, who served for 10 years. Following the Mayor’s address, Jim Aitcheson, the only Councillor to declare his candidacy for the Deputy Mayor position, was appointed for the term of Council. The first regular meeting of the new Council is scheduled for December 18, 2018 at 7:00 pm at the Municipal Office in St. Pauls.
