Mayor Al Strathdee and Councillors were sworn in at the Town Hall last Tuesday in front of family and friends. The Invocation was given by Rev. Gwen Ament and the national Anthem was sung by Rachel Strathdee. Warden Walter McKenzie was on hand to bring greetings from the County of Perth and Mayor Robert Wilhelm was on hand to bring greetings from Perth South. In his opening remarks, Mayor Strathdee thanked everyone for their support over the last four years. He said he had a “good team” in the previous term and was proud that they delivered “good government.” He said that during the last term they saw two food plants closed but he was confident that the “future is bright”. He added that one of the biggest challenges over the next term will be how much funding they might lose from higher levels of government.
Both Couns. Edney and Luna said they were “excited” to be back, with Coun. Edney noting it was 12 years since he was last on Council and for Coun. Luna it was an 8 year break. The only Councillor who is “brand new” is Coun. Fern Pridham who was elected with no previous Council experience. The Town Council approved who will be on the committees for the next four years and the full list is found on page 9.
On a motion by Coun. Edney and seconded by Coun. Craigmile, Coun. Luna was acclaimed as Deputy Mayor for a one year term.
