It was a productive night for the Hodkinson line last Wednesday night at the PRC.
In their Shamrock League home opener, the trio of centre Ryan Hodkinson and wingers Finn Stewart and Peyton Lobb was dominant for the Firefighter ‘BB’ Peewees. They controlled the play every time they were on the ice and combined for 15 points in a one-sided 9-1 victory over the Belmont Rangers.
Stewart clicked for four goals and two assists, while captain Hodkinson was another force with two goals and four assists. Linemate Lobb chipped in with three assists.
First-period goals by Stewart and Brock Chessell staked Firefighters to an early 2-0 lead. Stewart and Hodkinson connected on the same shift in the second period, putting St. Marys firmly ahead 4-0. Before the end of the period, Stewart’s third goal of the contest put the home side up 5-0.
After Griffin McGregor made it 6-0 early in the third, Rock goalie Josh Ballantyne lost his shutout bid with just 4:57 to play. In the final three minutes, goals by Hodkinson, defenceman Lucan Vernooy and Stewart completed the rout.
Defenceman Grayson Boreham also contributed to the offence with three assists.
Although not severely tested, goaltender Ballantyne played well–making a couple of timely stops for his team. Overall, St. Marys out-shot Belmont 42-13.
