Girls soccer report (submitted by coach Cara Fraser)
The Intermediate Girls Soccer Team dominated the field last Thursday during their tournament at Little Falls. They showed hard work, enthusiasm and teamwork during the round robin games (against Stratford Central B and Northwestern), pushing them right into the semi-finals. The team’s perseverance was in full force during the semis against Mitchell, going to a sudden death which led to our winning penalty shot kicked by the Salukis leading scorer Mackenzie Fierling. Central A (grade 8s) put in a good fight during the finals, but the Salukis defense and goalie Emma Luyten were unstoppable, not letting a single goal in the entire tournament. What a great season, ladies! You showed such strength, grit and positivity, representing this school in the best way possible! A big thank you to all the staff and students who came to support us!
Boys soccer report (by Stewart Grant)
The Intermediate Boys Soccer Team powered through their three-game round-robin with shutout wins over Stratford Central B, Northwestern, and South Huron A. They fell behind 1-0 in their semi-final against Central A, but Carson Brock scored on a long range free kick and Jaden Schiel netted the game winner on a penalty kick. The finals were a very closely-contended match against Mitchell, with the game scoreless into the final moments. Jaden Schiel sent a cross from the right wing into the slot and a furious scramble ensued. Alex Slade and Jimmy Schiedel battled with the Mitchell defenders from close range before Schiedel finally negotiated the ball past the goal line for the decisive score. Coach Kristen Debrabandere credited her whole team with a great 5-game effort to win the title.
