“A Celebration of Hockey” coming to the PRC March 22nd
By Stewart Grant
Two storied franchises…one night to remember. We are thrilled to announce that on Friday, March 22, 2019, the St. Marys Lincolns Alumni will play host to the Montreal Canadiens Alumni in a game that we expect will fill the Pyramid Recreation Centre with hockey fans from throughout the area.
The St. Marys Lincolns are the second-longest continuously operating Junior B team in Ontario, and winners of two Sutherland Cups. The Montreal Canadiens, founded in 1909 (eight years before the formation of the National Hockey League), are the longest continuously operating professional ice hockey team worldwide, and are winners of 24 Stanley Cups.
The year 1976 holds special meaning for both clubs. The Lincolns capped off their 1975-76 season by winning their second-ever Sutherland Cup. The team included names like Seguin, Warboys, Summers, Vanderspank, Coghlin, Bailey, Stover, Stacey and Dundas. Meanwhile in Montreal, the Canadiens won the 1976 Stanley Cup, which would begin a string of four straight championships, led by names like Lafleur, Shutt, Dryden, Robinson, Savard, Cournoyer, Mahovlich, Gainey and Lemaire.
With alumni from these two great hockey clubs coming together on March 22nd, it will truly be a great night to celebrate hockey: our shared national passion.
We will be making additional announcements and sharing more information throughout the season in the St. Marys Independent, on our website (www.lincs.ca) and on social media (www.facebook.com/golincsgo).
