Year-end playoff tournament held this past Saturday

The Comets and Get Crackin’ are this year’s division champions in the St. Marys Ladies Slow Pitch League.
A total of 11 teams–six in the ‘A’ Division and five in the ‘B’ Division–competed in the one-day, year-end playoff tournament. The ‘A’ Division games were held at the King diamond, and the ‘B’ Division games were contested at Teddy’s Field.
After round-robin play in the ‘A’ Division, three teams were tied for top spot with 2-0 records, and three teams were tied for fourth place with 0-2 records. One of those 0-2 teams was the first-place Bringin’ the Heat.
Runs for-and-against broke the deadlock, and the Comets, B-Brew, Exterminators and Free Agents advanced to the semi-finals late Saturday afternoon.
In the first ‘A’ semi-final, the Comets and Free Agents had a back-and-forth battle, but the Comets’ big bats prevailed. In the second semi-final, the colourful Exterminators jumped out to an early lead against the B-Brew and never looked back–booking their ticket to the Saturday-night final.
In the final game, the Comets’ bats kept booming, and combined with the spot-on pitching of Helen Thomson, they coasted to a 13-5 victory over the Exterminators to claim the ‘A’ trophy. During the regular-season schedule, the Comets finished in third place, but put it all together on the weekend and went a perfect 4-0 in the playoff tourney.
‘B’ Division picture
After some controversy in round-robin play, four teams advanced to the ‘B’ Division semi-finals; the first-place Snappers, second-place Get Crackin’, Mad Batters, and Just the Girls.
In the first semi-final, the Snappers and Just the Girls engaged in a tight, back-and-forth battle with neither team being able to capture momentum for long. In the end, Just the Girls pulled out a 7-5 victory. In the second semi-final, Get Crackin’ made quick work of the Mad Batters, posting a 13-0 win.
Get Crackin’ then carried this momentum into the final game. Again their bats led the way, quickly piling up 12 runs to defeat Just the Girls 12-0 and claim the ‘B’ playoff trophy.
