Training camp now just three weeks away

Hard to believe, but St. Marys Jr. ‘B’ Lincolns training camp is now just three weeks away.
Lincs open their GOJHL main camp on Thursday, Aug. 16 at the PRC. The team has five pre-season games scheduled next month as well.
Last week, the Independent learned that the Lincolns have signed five more players–bringing the total to 18 to date.
Assistant GM Greg Smale says the newest player to sign with the team is defenceman Michael Haddad. The 18-year-old Brampton resident has skated with the Lincs a couple of times during summer workouts in Stratford.
Haddad was a member of the Halton Hills ‘AAA’ Midget Hurricanes a year ago. He also played eight games as an affiliate player with Milton Icehawks of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).
19-year-old goalie acquired
Previous to that, Lincolns also got goalie Justin Richer’s name on a player’s card. He was acquired in a trade with Burlington Cougars of the OJHL.
Richer, a 19-year-old from the Sudbury area, did most of the puck-stopping for the Cougars last season, starting 37 games. He posted a 10-20-1 record, with a 3.49 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage last season. The 5 ft., 11 inch, 180 lb. netminder earned one shutout.
Smale told the Independent that three players from last year’s Lincs team have also signed for the upcoming season. They are: defenceman Jake Weston, 17, and forwards Tanner Hertel, 19 and Darcy Winkler, 18.
Weston, from the Thorndale area, was named Lincolns’ top defenceman last season. Hertel hails from Stratford, while Winkler is from the Waterloo area. The two wingers give Lincs a little size and experience up front.
