For upcoming Hockey Canada Summer Showcase in Calgary
CALGARY – St. Marys native April Clark will soon be donning some new colours as she’s been named to the U SPORTS Women’s Hockey all-star team that will participate in Hockey Canada’s Summer Showcase, here Aug. 2-12.
For the third straight year, the U SPORTS CIS all-stars will take part in the Summer Showcase, playing four games — two against Hockey Canada’s national women’s (U-22) development team and another pair of contests against Japan’s national women’s program.
Clark, 21, is one of only three players picked from the OUA (out of 13 teams). She is one of 17 CIS players on the all-star team.
Clark helped the University of Western Ontario Mustangs capture the second McCaw Cup in UWO program history this past March, and followed that up with a silver medal at the U SPORTS Women’s Hockey Championship, held on home ice at Thompson Arena.
The hard-working forward also earned OUA second team all-star honours this season after leading the Mustangs in scoring with 12 goals and 10 assists, and also ranking in the top 10 among all OUA players in both goals and points.
Stacey Colarossi, head coach of Laurentian Voyageurs, will serve as the all-star team’s bench boss for the second consecutive year, joined by assistants Marc-André Côté of Moncton Aigles Bleues, Greg Bowles of Ottawa Gee-Gees, and Terry Rhindress of Mount Allison Mounties.
The Summer Showcase will be held at WinSport in Calgary’s Canada Olympic Park.
–With April Clark being named to the U SPORTS Women’s Hockey all-star team, it means she will play for the Canadian CIS team at the 2019 world university women’s championship.
–Clark will be starting her fourth season with the Mustangs this fall. She’s in the nursing program at UWO.
