Second round of competition scheduled for May 26
The opening round of the Scotts Pitch and Run skills competition for youngsters was held this past Saturday on the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum grounds.
Boys and girls, aged 7-14, competed in three separate events: the players’ ability to throw strikes, a timed running segment, and hitting for distance and accuracy. Just over 30 players took part in four age categories: 7-8, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14.
Saturday’s winning results are as follows:
Overall, Declan McCotter 443 points (St. Marys). Pitching Declan McCotter 75 points (St. Marys); Hitting Brett McDonell 160 points (Ripley); Running Declan McCotter 244 points (St. Marys).
Overall, Jack Ward 719 points (Paris). Pitching Jack Ward 300 (Paris); Hitting Julian Walsh 296 points (St. Marys); Running Jack Ward 269 points (Ripley).
Overall, Ella Gracey 361 points (St. Marys). Pitching Ella Gracey 50 points; Hitting Ella Gracey 100 points; Running Ella Gracey 211 points.
Overall, Austin DeBoer 656 points (Lakeside). Pitching Finn Stewart 225 points (Lakeside); Hitting Tyson Talsma 316 points (Stratford); Running Austin DeBoer 319 points.
Overall, Kyle Dalrymple 728 points (Exeter). Pitching Kyle Dalrymple 400 points; Hitting Kyle Dalrymple 134 points; Running Kyle Dalrymple 194 points.
Overall, Jack McCotter 719 points (St. Marys). Pitching Jack McCotter 225 points; Hitting Mac King 286 points (St. Marys); Running Mac King 266 points.

All of the above advance to the second round (the Regional showdown), slated for Saturday, May 26 at the Hall of Fame, beginning at 10 a.m. If they make it through that sectional, they have a chance to be invited to compete at the Rogers Centre in Toronto on Saturday, June 16.
