As Tania Fersoy finished up her time across Canada at various Canadian Tire locations, she and her family anxiously wondered where in Canada they would land for their next big opportunity. Would it be Quebec? Northern Alberta? Or any of the more than 500 locations across Canada?
With Rahjit Soman taking the opportunity this month to move from St. Marys to run a larger Canadian Tire store in Flin Flon, Manitoba, Tania quietly hoped that she would be selected by corporate for the coveted St. Marys location. Not only had she heard great things from past store owners about St. Marys, but she and her family hoped to return to the friendly small-town environment that they’d enjoyed previously when living in the community of Alliston. When the news finally came through that St. Marys was where they were headed, the Fersoy family were elated.
From there, the news only got better, as they were able to purchase a house right here in town on short notice, despite a real estate market where demand seems to be far outreaching supply.
Tania, her husband Onur, and kids Aiden (9) and Ada (3) moved in 10 days ago, and have settled right into their new neighbourhood on Oakwood Court.
“It feels like home here…within a week!” said Tania.
“I think that’s its hands-down one of the nicest towns that I’ve ever seen, with all the stonework and the attention to detail. I’ve already been to a BIA meeting and talked to a lot of the local business owners and can see the pride in the historic component of the town. This feeling comes not just from people that have been here 30 or 40 years…it’s also people that have only been here a short while. You come in and you instantly appreciate the history and the heritage of the community…it’s contagious.”
In speaking with Tania, she’s amazed and thrilled by the spirit within the community and that there seems to be something unique happening nearly every weekend. She and her family are looking forward to diving right in and being a part of it. Friday is a great example, as Tania will be flipping pancakes on the bridge during the FM96 event before heading to Canadian Tire for opening hours.
“We’ve encouraged our family that everything that we do from haircuts to grocery shopping…everything’s going to happen here in town. That’s how we were in Alliston too, I think it’s really important to support the community and to get involved. We’re really excited to be here!”
