After a very impressive showing by all DCVI athletes two weeks ago at OFSAA West, one of DCVI’s most recognizable athletes, Marcel Scheele, took his lightning fast speed to Belleville for the provincial OFSAA tournament. At the regional event, Marcel came in first place in the steeplechase event, while also finishing in second place, just a hair behind the first place runner, in the 3000-meter run. With these outstanding results, Marcel advanced to the province-wide finale to the track and field season.
Upon arriving in Belleville on Friday, Marcel took part in a steeplechase heat, which he was successful in, earning him the opportunity to race in the steeplechase finals on Saturday. Once again, Marcel proved he was one of the top track and field athletes not only in the Huron Perth area but in the entire province, by pulling out a massive victory in the event. On Sunday, he did not quite reach the same success in the 3000-meter race, however, still put forward a fantastic showing on behalf of DCVI at the provincial meet, finishing in a very respectable seventh place.
On behalf of DCVI, the Independent Newspaper and the Town of St. Marys, we would like to congratulate Marcel on yet another dominant year in track and field and his huge victory in Belleville. A congratulations is also owed to all DCVI track and field athletes for everyone’s hard work and outstanding results at all local, WOSSAA and OFSAA West meets.
