Win versus Pelham, loss against Fort Erie
By Stewart Grant
The St. Marys Lincolns left the two-game GOJHL Showcase Weekend in London with two points, thanks to a convincing 6-1 victory over the Pelham Panthers on Sunday afternoon. Assistant captain Brandon Glover paced the team with a hat trick plus one assist, while other Lincolns goals were scored by Justin Vandendool, captain Chad Heffernan, and Alessio Luciani. Jack Dansbury and Brody Smith each recorded two assists during the game, while Tristan Lewis stopped 16 out of 17 shots for the win in goal.
Saturday’s match versus the Fort Erie Meteors did not go nearly as well, ending in a 7-1 score that was a much closer game than the score implied, as the Lincolns outshot the opposition 35-27. Brandon Glover scored the lone goal on a 3-on-1 rush, with assists going to Tanner Hertel and Dylan Nafziger.
During the weekend’s two games, the Lincolns handily out-shot their opponents by a total of 66-44. This impressive shot differential was achieved despite incurring nearly twice as many penalty minutes as their opposition (80 PIM vs. 43 PIM). While the team’s penalty kill only allowed two goals on 19 short-handed situations, St. Marys will want to improve their discipline in coming games.
The Lincolns Home Opener is at the Pyramid Recreation Centre this Friday at 7:30 p.m. versus the London Nationals.
