Finnbilt Novices reach semi-finals in Pelham

On Wednesday, Dec. 27, the Finnbilt ‘BB’ Novices headed to Pelham for their annual Regional Silver Stick tournament.

Bill Scheuermann’s squad started the tournament off on a shaky note, losing to Tillsonburg Tornadoes by a score of 3-2.  For the second game, it was a match-up with the Grimsby Peach Kings and it ended in a nail-biting 1-1 tie.

After a good night’s sleep, the well-rested team challenged the Thorold Blackhawks and defeated them 2-1, which placed the Rock team in tied for second in their pool.

Their placing took them to Pelham to take on the home-team Panthers.  In a ‘do-or-die’ quarter-final game, St. Marys was up for a fight and claimed a 4-2 victory.

The win placed the Finnbilt team on the schedule for an early morning and a second chance to take on the Tillsonburg Tornadoes in the semi-finals. Unfortunately, the Tornadoes came in strong and out-scored the Novice team 4-1.
The Finnbilt Novice ‘BB’ team this year is goalie Vaughn Barr, defencemen Kolton McAllister, Charlie Bender, Hunter Pickel and Zach Larmer, centres Ethan Henderson and Hayden Wright and wingers Grayson Gerber, Donovan McGregor, Cody King, Nick Brintnell, Danny Dittmer, Zach Matheson and Declan McCotter.
