Public meeting set for Arthur Meighen site

Fewer units proposed

Although the Planning Advisory Committee did not indicate whether they are for or against the proposal for the Arthur Meighen site on Wellington and Water Streets , they did set a date for a Public meeting which will be held on January 9th. Stephen Cornwall, a planner for the developer, indicated that they have scaled back the units from 202 to 180, consisting of 50 seniors apartments and 130 assisted living units. He addressed some of the objections from previous meetings and noted that many of the objections will be addressed through a Site Plan agreement with the Town. Henry Monteith speaking on behalf of local residents told the Committee that the new proposal  is still unacceptable and said that in his opinion this proposal is not suitable for the area. Town Planner Mark Stone, who will be submitting his recommendations for the public meeting, said  that contrary to some opinions, the area is not designated a Heritage Area even though there are some homes in the area that are Designated.
