Celebrate the start of the festive season in St. Marys

Santa Claus Parade Friday with restricted parking

The Town of St. Marys is inviting the public to celebrate the start of the festive season by enjoying a variety of special activities and events happening in November.

Holiday celebrations get underway on Friday, November 17 with the Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade at 7:00 p.m. Spectators are reminded that downtown parking stalls on Queen Street and Water Street South will be closed the day of the parade. Public Works will close one side of the parking stalls at 7:00 a.m. and the remaining spaces at 1:00 p.m.

The lighting of the Festive Outdoor Light Display at Milt Dunnell Field will take place after the parade. The display will continue to be lit evenings at dusk until January 8.

The River Road Run has sponsored free skating at the Pyramid Recreation Centre on Sunday, November 19 from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Free skating will also be available on Saturday, November 25 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM courtesy of Lyric Flowers, Sun Rayz, Sam’s Home Hardware, Hyggeligt, Dunny’s Source for Sports, St. Marys Optometry, Town & Country Cheese Shoppe and Snapping Turtle Coffee Roasters.

Those in search of the perfect present will enjoy the St. Marys Business Improvement Area’s “Old Time Christmas” on Sunday, November 26 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. This event will feature Victorian carolers, horse drawn carriage rides, appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus and hot cocoaserved by the St. Marys Lincolns. Featured services (with a charitable donation) include gift wrapping compliments of United Church Women and YMCA activities for youth at Town Hall. Remember that “Christmas is Golden” in Downtown St. Marys! Discover that perfect gift amidst seasonal hospitality and old-time service at one of our many shops and services.

Visitors and residents will want to save the date for a variety of festivities in December, the earliest of which include the Friendship Centre’s Christmas Luncheon on December 1 and St. Marys Museum Open House on December 3. The popular horse-drawn wagon rides at Milt Dunnell Field will begin the weekend of December 16.
