Accepting donations until December 9th

Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer. For Amie Rankin of Troyer’s Spices, she will always remember the courage of young Braxton Long of Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Braxton was a kind and giving boy who bravely fought and defeated Glioblastoma (brain cancer) on two occasions before it returned for a third and final time last autumn. “Super Braxton”, as he became known, passed away on July 24th at the age of eight.
In spite of Braxton’s circumstances, he always inspired people with his glass half-full attitude and his empathy towards others. While at Nationwide Children’s Hospital (Columbus, Ohio) taking rounds of chemotherapy, his favorite thing to do was to put together Lego sets. This gave him an idea on how he could help others.
His mother Brittany reflected, “We were talking about other kids that were going to be spending Christmas this year in the hospital and he’s like ‘We should do a Lego drive.’” Braxton decided on a target of 253 Lego sets. Thanks to the kindness of strangers, Braxton’s ambitious goal of 253 Lego sets was far surpassed. So many kids were thus provided with gifts that brought joyful distraction during their time at Nationwide.
“Seeing the results of what Braxton and his community were able to accomplish made me want to do something similar for the children and their families here in southwestern Ontario,” said Amie Rankin. “We’re going to be collecting donations of new Lego sets between now and December 9th. Last year, Braxton and his family helped raise awareness of Pediatric cancer, as well as, putting huge smiles on many little faces. My husband, Dan, and I want to help “Super Braxton” carry out the mission he began last year. The recipients of these LEGOs donated will be the pediatric patients of Children’s Hospital in London, just in time for Christmas.”
Donations can kindly be dropped off at Troyer’s Spices at 110 Queen Street East, St. Marys, during regular business hours (please don’t leave Lego sets outside after hours). Alternatively, sets ordered through Amazon can be shipped to Troyer’s Spices at P.O. Box 630, St. Marys, ON N4X 1B4. Any number of pieces are greatly appreciated.
