Man of La Mancha Actor’s Ambition & Persistence Pays Off
St. Marys Community Players is proud to announce that actress and singer Chloe Weir has placed first in the musical theatre division at the Federation of Canadian Music Festivals’ (FCMF) National Music Festival held in Ottawa on August 9 and 10th.
Earlier this year she placed first at the Kiwanis Music Festival in Stratford and qualified to compete at the Ontario Music Festival Association’s provincial competition in Hamilton at the end of May, in which she also placed first. That win allowed her to move on to the FCMF competition.
Weir was on the SMCP stage in the 2015 award winning production of Cabaret in the role of Fraulein Kost. Her next theatrical presence is in SMCP’s upcoming fall musical Man of La Mancha cast in the female lead role, Aldonza.
“Musical theatre reaches out and grabs people’s hearts. That musical art form can get you right away and it appeals to me,” said Chloe Weir. “I love musical theatre and I listened to Man of La Mancha as a kid. There are so many journeys in Man of La Mancha that the audience can connect with. It’s going to grab you and you might cry by the end of it.”
According to the Director, Mark Mooney, “I was delighted to hear about Chloe’s win. When I cast her I knew she was talented but this win confirms her talent and I am looking forward to working with her to create her role of Aldonza in Man of La Mancha.”
SMCP is now in its 44th season located in the historic St. Marys Town Hall Theatre. Man of La Mancha is currently in rehearsal with approximately 30 cast members, and the production teams are ambitiously working behind the scenes to bring another spectacular show to the community.
Man of La Mancha is on stage starting with a preview performance Thursday, October 26, and opens on Friday, October 27 and runs until closing on Sunday, Nov 5th.
