Landfill hours extended this Saturday
By Stewart Grant
St. Marys Town Wide Yard Sale is set for this Saturday, during the 3rd weekend in July, as has been the case for the last few years.
The Town Wide Yard Sale concept has been growing over time, with many communities using it as a way to draw tourists into their town. There’s even a website, www.townwideyardsale.ca, which lists more than 120 community yard sale events from across the province. St. Marys shares its July 15th date with Cayuga and Blenheim, the latter which is marking its first-year as an event. Certainly, we can expect more tourists to visit our lovely town this weekend due to yet another occasion on the St. Marys events calendar.
Please make particular note of the yard sales advertised within our Classified section this week, but also be sure to explore our streets to find treasures at garage sales that may not be listed. The Town Wide Yard Sale is a great occasion to get out there and meet friends, make new ones, and shop for great bargains.
The St. Marys Landfill will be open late this Saturday, July 15, 2017. Instead of closing at 12:30 p.m., the site will stay open until 3:30 p.m. This temporary change coincides with the town-wide yard sale, which is being held on Saturday starting at 8:00 a.m.
The Town is encouraging yard sale participants to dispose of any unsold or unwanted items legally by bringing them to the landfill during the extended hours. The landfill accepts certain electronics, hazardous materials and leaf and yard waste for free. Items not included in these categories will be subject to standard disposal fees.
The landfill opens on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. A full list of accepted materials and fees is available at www.townofstmarys.com.
