This past Monday at the PRC, Lincolns executive formally closed the transformative 2016/17 season and looked forward to the upcoming 2017/18 campaign. Team President Brandon Boyd firstly thanked everyone who helped make last season such a success on-and-off the ice; truly a community effort. Next, Boyd acknowledged that there is still so much left to accomplish and that the current group is really just getting started.
Off the ice, the Lincolns’ elected a full slate of 15 Directors (see listing), which is up from 11 last season. In addition, Pete Frehner joined the Lincolns Executive as secretary. The knowledge and expertise of the new additions will be invaluable to the hockey team’s efforts to take another big step forward in 2017/18.
Director of Hockey Operations Glen Childerley provided an update to the membership assembled. Many of last year’s players have already committed to returning to the team with at least a couple more expected to be signed to cards shortly. Childerley was also pleased to report the signing of new players Nick Jung, Navrin Mudder, Jake Weston and goaltender Alex Metzger (see current roster below). With regards to last season’s MVP Alessio Luciani, Childerley reported that he’ll be playing next season with the Whitecourt Wolverines of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (Tier II Jr. A).
In some bittersweet news, Childerley announced that Lincolns’ assistant coach and former NHLer Mark Bell will be leaving the team, as Bell has been offered a position with the Arizona Coyotes as a pro scout and to assist with player development. While the Lincolns will need to fill his position over the next couple of months, you can’t help but be happy for Mark and the opportunity that he’s been given with the Coyotes.
