Extra Innings – News from the Baseball Hall of Fame

Mother Nature is still throwing curveballs at our groundskeepers, but with hundreds of kids on the diamonds last Saturday, we’re on our way to a terrific summer.  The Cement and Rotary Fields are hosting the Ontario Nationals and Ottawa Canadians Under 18s this weekend.  Come out and cheer these out-of towners on.

Meanwhile at the Museum, Jordan Scorgie brings both knowledge and enthusiasm to his tour guide duties.  A native of New Hamburg, he’s back home for the summer and commutes to his job at CBHFM.

Opening Pitch posterJordan’s a student in Law at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay and may well gravitate to a career in sports law or admin. His love for baseball was inspired by his Grandfather, with whom he listened to/watched games and even attended the odd Blue Jays match-up in Toronto.

Jordan would love to welcome you to the Museum, which operates on weekends now but will be open 7 days a week from Thursday, June 1 to the end of August.  Act fast and it’s free admission for anyone driving for a cause at Downtown GM St. Marys.  The last day for that promotion is Induction Day, June 24.

2017 Induction Weekend T-shirts are now available for purchase in the Museum and they are beauties.  Our design team in London has updated the CBHFM logo and the garments are made of self-wicking material.  Available in red and black, they are just $19.99 plus tax.  A great addition to any baseball fan’s wardrobe!

Director of Operations Scott Crawford doesn’t get much sleep in the weeks leading up to the induction festivities.  Lately, he’s been busy with the new inductee exhibits at the Museum, travel arrangements and interviews. We’re expecting larger than usual crowds at this year’s events because both Roy Halladay and Vladimir Guerrero were huge fan favourites. (Incidentally, Halladay celebrated his 40th birthday on May 14.)

Previous inductees who will be back in St Marys include Ferguson Jenkins, Paul Quantrill, Ernie Whitt, Pat Gillick, Pat Hentgen, Tony Fernandez, Paul Beeston, Ron Taylor, Howard Starkman, Bob Elliott and Don McDougall.  Annakin Slayd, whose musical tributes to the Expos and the Montreal Canadiens have a million hits on YouTube, will be the Master of Ceremonies for the golf tournament and Blue Jays announcer Mike Wilner will emcee the induction ceremony.

Induction Weekend reminders:  It’s less than a month away!  Our new kick-off event, The Opening Pitch, takes place on Thursday, June 22 in Toronto and is more than 55% sold out.  On Friday, June 23, St Marys Golf and Country Club will host the 21st Annual Celebrity Golf Classic and Banquet.  There are still openings for a couple of foursomes, as well as stand-alone banquet tickets for non-golfers.  For tickets and more info on these and other Induction Day events, call 519-284-1838, email baseball@baseballhalloffame.com or visit the office at 140 Queen St. E
