It looks as though this may be one of the stronger years for DCVI for track and field following some great results at WOSSAA last week. Five athletes advanced in nine individual events, which, for a school of DCVI’s size, as one of the smallest in the area, was a tremendous outing. These athletes are going to compete at the OFSAA West meet today and tomorrow at TD Waterhouse Stadium in London, which will provide the chance for these athletes to advance to the provincial OFSAA meet.
Beginning this afternoon, DCVI will be represented by Hazel Taylor, who will be competing in the girls’ steeplechase event. Ursula Wood will be taking part in the long jump, 100-meter heat (and, hopefully, the 100-meter finals), and will be part of the 4×100-meter relay along with Jaci Mitchell, Rachael Bentley, and Jenna Dufton. Jaci will also be taking part in the 100-meter heat and, potentially, the final. Marcel Scheele is the final DCVI athlete participating today, as he will be running in the boys’ steeplechase. Tomorrow, both Sophia Slater and Marcel will be at work early in the day just before 11 in the morning when they run the 3000 meter. Jaci will also be back to take part in the triple jump event, while Hazel will be back to also run her 3000-meter event later in the day.
