An event that is seldom seen any more, happened on Saturday morning when after 47 years on the job, Jim Rousseau had the final ride on the train on Saturday morning as an engineer. Rousseau, who is from the GTA area has been “travelling” all over Canada as part of his employment with VIA, and rates St. Marys as his favourite. ‘I have been very impressed with this town since I first came through here 15 years ago” he said. He had the highest of praise for the staff he has met at the St. Marys station over the years noting how friendly they always were. ‘They were great ambassadors for the town” he said. He said he was “speechless” when he was told, “on short notice”, that there would be a “farewell” presentation when the train pulled into St. Marys. Chris West presented Rousseau with a gift and some retirement balloons to wish him well. “Chris West is a true gentleman” Rousseau said and was very thankful for the gifts he received. And on one final comment about St. Marys, Rousseau said that he has many pictures and sketches of St. Marys in his home, “because I love St. Marys”. We wish Jim all the best in his retirement.
