Planning consultant contracted
After extensive public consultation, Grant Brouwer, Director of Building and Development for the Town, recommended to Council that the tender from Playworld Option 1 in the amount of $137,305 be awarded which Council agreed to. Brouwer outlined the process that was taken with input received from children at both elementary schools, parents, the general public, the Accessibility Advisory Committee and an online vote to choose the playground equipment. After the public consultation Brouwer said that Town staff graded all the proposals and came up with Playworld Option 1. He said that the plan will be finalized this week to see if they can incorporate all the suggestions from the public. The installation will begin in the near future with completion by mid June, to be ready for the July 1st celebrations. The playground equipment is the first phase of the re-development of Cadzow Park which began in 2015 and continued with the removal of the pool last year. Originally Council had approved $150,000 for the playground equipment.
In other Council news, the Town will have a new advisor for planning issues. For the past number of years, the Town had an informal and legally non-binding agreement with Perth Country for planning advice. In recent times it was Mark Swallow who handled the duties on behalf of the County at a cost of $148 per hour. The Town was notified by the County that this agreement would end on March 31 and as a result have contracted MLS Planning Consulting from Aurora as their new planners at a cost of $60 per hour. The new consultants are operated by Mark L Stone who has extensive municipal experience in planning issues.
