Pep rally MC Thomas Redman takes a selfie with all the staff and students of DCVI

With activities throughout ranging from students balancing Oreo cookies on their foreheads to a giant tug of war game, the large gym was turned into a red and white Saluki party last Wednesday. Noisemakers, chants and each and every sports team getting a hero’s welcome as they bolted into the gym one after another were all present as the school prepared for the massive event taking place the next day. The pep rally which also featured every staff member wearing a pink shirt to combat bullying served as a prelude to the Senior Girls Volleyball matches that were coming up. The girls were at the assembly and used to excitement to full effect.
As the girls, who went undefeated in their ten regular season contests, came into the gym, the energy was palpable. Thursday was their biggest day of the season, however, as they hosted the WOSSAA tournament, with West Elgin facing North Middlesex and St. Marys taking on Monseigneur Bruyere. DCVI handily defeated their first challengers in Bruyere in straight sets, 25-14, 25-16 and 25-14. Their victory put them in the Gold medal game against West Elgin, who defeated Middlesex in four sets. Once again, however, the girls would dominate their challengers and would pick up the win in straight sets again, 25-8, 25-10 and 25-17. A big congratulations goes to the girls on a fantastic season and their gold medal victory and the best of luck as they head to the OFSAA tournament in Welland next week.
