With the St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation’s “Someone I Know” capital campaign sitting just a few hundred thousand dollars shy of its $5 million goal, the fourth edition of the gala, slated for Saturday, Apr. 29, could be even more of a celebration than usual.
But the gala is already shaping up to be the event of the year. This edition, simply called A Gala Celebration, is the first to feature a keynote speaker. Jessica Holmes, the comedian, actress and author, best known for her work on CBC television’s Royal Canadian Air Farce, will surely bring a smile to attendees’ faces with her fast-paced yet thoughtful wit.
In addition to Holmes’ inspiring and entertaining presentation, the gala will serve up its trademark mix of elegance and entertainment. This year’s theme is masquerade; guests can bring their own masks or enjoy one on behalf of the gala to add an air of mystery to the gala, held at the community hall of the Pyramid Recreation Centre. A multicourse meal will be served by Linda Arthur and her talented staff at Village Catering, and a fabulous selection of exclusive items will be available through live and silent auctions. A complete list of items will be available prior to the gala night for consideration.
Sean Camp of Lucid Musings photo will return with his photo booth to document the festivities, and his son Jaron, with Jared Bieber, both members of DCVI’s classical band, will entertain the crowd during cocktail hour. After the formal portion of the evening, the floor will open to dance the night away to everyone’s favourite songs.
Tickets are now available online at www.someoneiknow.ca and clicking on “events”, as well as at Lauren Whitney Lifestyles at 101 Queen St. E. in St. Marys (cash or cheque only). Tickets are $100 each, or $800 for a table of eight. Dance-only tickets, with entry at 9 p.m., are also available for $25.
